The Company
Tamiami Ford is a family-owned group of Ford dealerships. Like a lot of great dealerships, it was built on hustle and independence, especially in the service department, where advisors and their leaders keep the whole operation moving. People knew their jobs, took pride in their numbers, and got the work done. Ownership stayed close to the business, and the culture felt like family. What the group had never really done was invest in formal development for the people leading its teams.
The Challenge
The service department runs on communication. Advisors manage customer interactions, write and track repair orders, and coordinate between technicians, parts, and customers to keep everything moving. When that communication breaks down, the result is delays, confusion, and frustrated customers. Leadership wanted to strengthen the people skills behind all of it, better communication with customers and across departments, calmer handling of difficult situations, and more confidence explaining complex repairs in a way customers actually understand. The catch: many of these managers had years, sometimes decades, of experience and had never been through formal training. The question was whether they'd find real value in it.
- Communication Breakdowns: Miscommunication between advisors, techs, and customers led to delays and confusion the team wanted to eliminate.
- High-Pressure Customer Work: Managers regularly navigate upset customers, parts delays, and heavy workloads, all while explaining complex issues in plain language.
- Experienced, Untrained Leaders: Seasoned managers needed development that respected their experience instead of talking down to it, and that they would genuinely value rather than tolerate.
The Solution
Tamiami Ford started small and personal, giving a first group of managers live, one-on-one sessions with an expert trainer. That format turned out to be the difference. Instead of sitting through a generic course, each manager had a real conversation, built around their own role on the service drive, their own team, and the exact situations they were facing, from tense customer conversations to coordinating a busy shop.
- One-on-One, Not One-Size-Fits-All: Every session was a personal conversation with an expert trainer who tailored the material to that manager's role and years on the job.
- Grounded in Real Work: Managers practiced the situations they actually face, difficult customers, cross-department coordination, explaining complex repairs simply, turning decades of experience into sharper, more intentional leadership.
- A Trusted Thought Partner: The sessions gave managers something they had never had: a neutral, expert sounding board to think through challenges and test their approach.
The Results
The program set out to strengthen the communication and confidence behind smoother service and happier customers. The response surprised even the skeptics: managers who assumed the training would cover the basics found themselves discovering new approaches after decades in the business, and the program quickly became something people asked to keep doing.
- Perfect Marks: Learners rated the program a straight 5.0 out of 5 for overall experience, trainer effectiveness, relevance to their role, and engagement.
- From One Group to Many: What began with a handful of managers grew into multiple cohorts as leadership kept adding people and pathways.
- Growth You Can See: One manager described his sessions as "work therapy," a place to gain perspective and sharpen how he handles his team, and kept going well past his original sessions. Another used what he built to step into a bigger role.
The Future
Nearing its one-year anniversary with Bundle, Tamiami Ford is planning how to grow the program further, from more flexible ways to spread sessions across its people to extending development beyond managers into other parts of the dealerships. Leadership has come to see this not as a training program, but as a long-term investment in its people, and the kind of skills that follow someone through their whole career.
